OK I wear size 13/14 jeans. So I figured most likely a 16 or so wedding gown. I had to put on an 18 for it to fit. Why they do this is beyond me. Now I know all designers run their sizes differently. But atleast I know I can order an 18 and then have it altered. The one dress I tried on fit great in some areas and would only need a couple of alterations in a couple of places. So when I do order a dress I know what size to order then can have it altered. Most dresses give you enough seam to take out a couple of inches any way right? The shop I was in only had a couple of gowns in color. None of the colored ones are ever in my size. They are like size 2 or something lol. Yes I know they can be ordered. But the cheapest I found was $400. With alterations and such I can't spend more then $300. A little over like $25 or so wont hurt. But I have to be strict with myself or I wont be able to afford this thing. OK now I am just rambling again. What do you all think?

Yeah, dress sizes are weird ;) But yes most dresses do give a little bit of room for alterations.
As for trying on different dresses, you may not have much luck with that. For some reason, most shops don't carry our sizes and if they do they are not the best of their styles.
So you may have to just try on what they have and hope to get a better idea of what you like and/or need.
Good luck dear!

I know that most dresses can go up or down between 1 and 2 dress sizes. So, you might need to talk to a seamstress and let her see the dress. They would be better and determining something like that. It probably has to do with how the dress is cut.
As for dress sizes, I have worn a 12 for the last several years. Someone explain to me why my wedding gown had to be ordered in an 18!

Oh Good grief. I wonder why the designers make the dress sizes like that? Like brides need to think they have gained weight! We have enough to be depressed and anxious about, you would think they would go the other way, you know, you wear a 12 normally but your dress is a 6 or something. Boost our egos a little bit.

Most of the gowns I tried on where two sizes about what I where in "normal" clothes. But the dress I bought is the same size I wear in normal clothes?! That kinda surprised me!

It was terrible trying on dresses that my mom had to hold together so i could get an idea what it would look like on me.
I'm very glad that the woman at the bridal shop didn't tell me what size she was ordering for me. My guess is at 16 based on what everyone eles has said about the size differences.
Order somthing that will be bigger on you and have it altered. Or, contact the company and ask about their sizing.
Good Luck!

I e-mailed a local shop and told them about my budget and my ideas i am looking for in a gown. The woman e-mailed me back today and said she could help me with both. She told me to call her and set up an appointment with her. This has me excited. Now all i need to do is make time to go see her lol. Wish me luck.
