So tonight while at work watching tv, on MSNBC news there is a major murder investigation going on. I have been able to find the article online because the computer at work it slow.. but
There was a 24year old nanny that replied to a nanny position on Craiglist, and yesterday they found her body in the trunk of her car. Apparently the suspect is the person of interest from Craiglist... I am going to try my darndest to find this article...
Please be safe ladies...

This happened in my town, unfortunately. All I can say is (just like with anything else) *due vigilance* is the way to go. The victim took the responder at his word and didn't do a background check or a criminal check. She didn't set up a 'safe call' or tell the local police she was letting a stranger in her home. She didn't make copies of his DL or get any references.
I am very sorry this happened. There are crazies and freaks and whatnot anywhere you go. Literally anywhere. The world is a dangerous place, and it is up to us as individuals to keep ourselves safe. Nobody is going to protect us out there. We have to protect ourselves, and the best way to do that is to practice due vigilance.
Craigslist has been nothing but a benefit to me and mine. We saved $700 by getting brand-new IKEA bookshelves free, I got my job through Craigslist, and I found my current landlord (and the HUGE duplex we're living in) via Craigslist, among other things. I know in the media coverage Craigslist is becoming the scapegoat, because it's not PC to blame the victim, but Craigslist isn't at fault. Craigslist's only part in this whole thing was hosting the ad.
It was the kid's choice to murder (yeah, I think 19 years old is a kid, still) and it was the victim's choice to take him at his word.
It's awful, and sad, but I would hope that this isolated incident doesn't scare people off. Craigslist builds community and provides a necessary service, particularly for those who are strapped for cash or want to recycle their stuff by allowing other people to use it.
I feel sympathy for the victim's family. Though the world is a dangerous place, you shouldn't have to pay for being trusting by losing your life. That is horrible and wrong. By all accounts, the victim was a nice young woman, somebody who went to church and gave to the unfortunate and so on and absolutely didn't deserve to be killed. I am very sorry it happened.

i feel the same way about the media using these usually helpful outlets as scapegoats. Unfortunatley, this is something that happened, and hopefully peolpe are more aware and learn from these things..
Bless her family, my heart goes out to them

I read the article a few days ago. It says right in there that it has nothing to do with CraigsList but they are just calling it the Craigslist Murder because that was how they got in touch with each other. The article states that Craigslist is not responsible in any way. I will see if I can find it again if any one is interested in reading it.
