the next thing I need to do it make out directions for my invitations, since hardly anyone lives here, this is needed. I was looking around and found this site but they are WAY expensive(go to portfolio to see examples..then go to pricing for a shock!!) http://www.couturemaps.com/index.htm.
I was wondering if you guys think this will be too hard to do it myself?? ANy ideas of how this can be done, like with the cute buildings and such??

You can capture a map from google maps (http://maps.google.com/) and then insert it into a word file, add your written instructions and format it however you would like.

Oh, dear, smileyone . . .
And here I was just going to print out however many I needed of the Mapquest map . . .
!!!
Um. Ok, I feel stupid now. Is this dressing up of maps a new thing? When I got married before Mapquest didn't exist (shocking, I know) and we didn't include a map at all -- people just knew where the church was.
Is a 'pretty' map the New Thing?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Are you looking for the cute "cartoony" or "Charicatured" maps specifically or do you just need maps? I'm guessing the former by your initial post.
You could always sketch out a map based on an actual picture. And throw in some clip art or doodle the details! If you aren't too art savvy you could have an artistic friend do it perhaps?
The ones in the link look hand sketched so I don't think it would be TOO hard an undertaking :)

If you look up knot bios, mapbio has great instructions and some images you can use for church, reception, etc.
I did my own, and while I'm really happy with how it turned out, it took me several hours to get "just right" . (There are 3 expressways here that cross over each other oddly, and many curvy roads, so it took longer than I expected.)
Alternatively, oliostyle will do them for you for $40 if you find that to be within your budget. (Consider your per hour worth before you make this decision! I was fortunate enough to be able to do it at work, so I was really paid to do it. lol)
I just looked at the pricing... and it says that if you get just one map, it's only like $4, plus more for any additional stuff you want on it. I might just pay for that, have it sent to me, then go to Kinko's or something to make copies onto nice paper!

Whoa! :whoa: I don't know what you were looking at, but the site says $400.00 for the design, and then you pay for printing AND paper!!!

I dont know what everyone is doing these days, I just say this and thought it was adorable!! I love things like that, and I NEED directions for my guests and thought it would be a cute way to do so! I think I will just draw it and add cute little buildings and such, I cant bring myself to pay for something that people are REALLY, just going to throw away! But they are so cute..lol

That IS a really cute idea!! I'm having a map on mine, too....so that's a great idea! I like to doodle, so I bet this wouldn't be too hard to do. (I certainly can't see paying four hundred bucks for it though. LOL!)
Fun! :geek:

We used the Mapquest maps and printed them on postcards and included them that way. Not quite as cute as the "sketches", but we were able to include icons for the hotel, etc. - and no one got lost!!

I think just make a "sketches" is enough if you want a cheap way. eventhough it is just "sketches", it is not as cheap as it looks. Just print out in a good paper or has same theme with your wedding invitation. You an also print out in color ink.
Use a computer software for drawing like Coreldraw. word processor is ok, use drawing function.
it is easy and cheap

Those are cute, but wow those prices are high. I think it's something you could definitely do yourself. It might take a while to draw it up. But once you are happy with your design, just go to a printing place and make copies on nice paper.
