Has anyone in here done or seen someone have tissue paper flower for the centerpieces and bouquet, etc?

I don't want to use real flowers because I just don't feel comfortable having live ones that had to get cut just for one day...

PLUS, I am an art teacher, and I think it would be really cute. I don't need much decorations, as it will be outside, and that's enough for me, but for the centerpieces and bouquet, I need something.

Will that work? What do you think?:flower:

I think it could be cute with the right theme and colors. Here are a few pictures I found. There is everything from realistic roses to the cute type I recall making in grade school.

I really like the second picture! With the leaves, you could put them on favor boxes, etc. They just looked adorable to me!

Awesome you guys! Thanks so much for the great links and ideas1 :)

I have a children's book about how to do many different kinds of tissue paper flowers, too, so I have a lot to practice with...thank goodness I've got 8.5 months!

How cool would it be to have each of your students make one for you!

What grades do you teach??

Funny you should say that! =) I teach Art for grades K-5. Last year, when I came back to school the weekend after getting engaged, the news spread really fast. One of my fifth grade classes had a really neat group of girls, and they came in all bubbly and everything, and they actually came up with the idea first of doing paper flowers, and said that everyone should make one for me. Also, they loved the idea that my name would change to "Mrs. Brown" since it's a color :bblol:

If I had every kid in the school make me a flower, I'd have 575!!! Even if I just narrowed it down to 5th grade, I'd still have 80! But if I get down to the wire and need some help, I might just do that! :frogg:

Martha Stewart has a tissue paper flower kit she sells at Michael's crafts. It is everything that they used for the cover of the Spring '06 Weddings cover.

I have some pics a bride posted another thread I can share with you if you email me at JANFOREST at aol dot com . They are in blue.

I also saw some of them in fall colors at a wedding in a park next to where I work. They looked nice but not as nice as the ones I have pic of or Martha's. In the past I have done searches on "pictures of Martha Stewart tissue paper flowers and found other examples online.

Yeah, I went to Michael's yesterday too! I saw all of Martha Stewart's kits, and they look great. But I do not want to spend that kind of money. I bought some tissue paper in a light blue, almost kind of turquoise color (I think I will have to look online for teal tissue paper!), and tried out a flower last night....

I got really frustrated at first because I couldn't understand the directions, but FH figured it out (:whoohoo:) and I finished it... It's gorgeous! I'll have to post a picture later! So happy! It might actually work!!!! (but thank goodness I have 8 months, because it's going to take forever!)

FYI- Never buy anything at Michael's without the coupon!!! They usually have a lot them this time of year.

I know teachers who put up notices in teacher's rooms saying "Bride looking for any extra unneeded Michael's coupons. Please leave in my box on Monday's!!! They got tons of them!!! Michael's will often let you use two at a time. Brides often go in groups with their maid's/family and run through the register two coupons at a time to get that they want.

Also large sheets of tissue paper can be purchased in bulk online. I can't tell you which company is better to order from, but if you do a search you will find lots of options. Also if you know anyone who works at a company that gets packing catalogs in the mail maybe they can give you one. They also usually have bulk colored tissue in large sheets and many colors. A teachers can always find uses for any extra and probably write it off on their taxes!!!

You don't even need a physical 40% coupon when you go there. You can go multiple times in a day/week and keep using them over & over again. Just say, "Is there a weekly coupon?" when you go to checkout and they will hand you a paper to sign with your zip code if there is one available for the week.

Make SURE you tell them specifically which item you want the 40% off to apply to (choose your most expensive item). Some cashiers will forget to ask and apply it to the last item they ring up (which could be a $0.25 item, lol).

My mom and sister-in-law both work for Michael's... hehehe.

The rules are different at different stores. A lot depends on the
competition in the area. Here you have ot have hte coupon. At one time if you didn't they would give you one, but not anymore. There are a lot of craft stores around here so they will honor the coupons from the other stores and will make you sign that book as well, but in some other places they won't do that.

Dang it! You beat me. I was just coming back to post again...hehe. My friend just told me what you did. :( Apparently at a store in Washington near the border you have to have coupons, too (she drives down from Vancouver because Michael's in her area are so much more expensive).

I never knew it was like that anywhere...boo! Okay, if you live in Columbus, OH, Cleveland, OH or Pittsburgh, PA, you don't need coupons, lol.
