DH has been clearing out some of the brush from our back yard so that we can fence it in for the dogs. We have a tree service out here today cutting the trees down.

Here is a before pic ~

And they are not done :whoa:

The dogs are not happy about the noise; Roxy still hasn't went potty today.

Nope; it is a small yard, so we need all the space we can get ;)

The neighbors have trees on either side and there is a covered porch (that also needs a remodel) for shade. We have a couple of trees in the front yard and on the side of the house that will probably stay.

You have a large backyard to me. I love the way it looks with all the trees. Are you going to miss all the trees or is this something you wanted to do for a long time?

What are you going to do with all the fallen trees?

One idea is get some volunteers to chop them and donate them to needy families who might need heat this winter (of course, they'd need a fireplace or wood stove).

Yeah, we want the space for the dogs to run and play. The yard really isn't that big; half of it is part of the paved driveway. There are no houses behind us so the property looks bigger in the distance ;)

They will do all the clean up; they will chip them up and/or clear it out when they are done.

hehe - I didn't even notice ;) Yeah I have been here for over 2 years though :geek:

Hope your puppies can take a poopy real soon. :)LOL - Actually the one went fine, just fast; the other wouldn't go at all because of the noise :notsure: But they were fine after the guys took a lunch break yesterday ;)

They were suppose to come back today, but we have not seen or heard from them yet. DH called and is waiting to hear back from them. I am pretty sure it will all work out, we haven't paid them yet ;)

I like both pictures. looks like there would still be enough room for a fence even with the trees. I have been working on the section of my backyard that I call a garden, it is so over run with weeds an saplings.

Here is a pic of the yard where you can see the car port part; about where the red arrow is in the pic is where our property line ends ;)

All the trees are down now (I need to take more pics), but the guys still have to come back to haul them off and grind up the stumps. They were suppose to come back yesterday, but someone called in sick. Then today no one showed and no one called. DH called the guy and he said he got stuck at another job and would be out tomorrow; I guess we will see.

DH says he isn't too worried as it isn't really holding us up and he sort of knows the guy and hasn't paid him yet. But I think it is pretty cr@py business not to call someone if you can't do what you say you are gonna do for them.

I want to see it done, but even when the trees are cleared out we still have alot more to do and it won't be done any time soon.

Well the trees are all gone and there is nothing but rubble left; it looks like a war zone in our back yard now. We were suppose to have the same people come out and do some grading and plant grass a couple of weeks ago.

We hadn't heard back from the guy and DH called him a few days before Thanksgiving and found out the guy had fallen out of a tree on another job and was in the hospital in intensive care.

We just found out today that the guy died :o We didn't really know him; he went to school with DH and was a friend of a friend. It is still sad and I feel bad for his family; I think was only like 35 or so.

Anyway, so now we have to find someone else to do the grading and such and now it looks like it will probably not get done any time soon :(

So I thought I would revivie this thread since we are working on the yard again.

We had to put it on hold for a while; even though we had gotten rid of all the trees, the yard got over grown with brush since October.

But there are guys here today doing getting rid of the brush, doing grading and will be planting grass and putting down hay. They say it will all be done today.

We have some quotes in for the fence too, so it looks like it may actually happen over the next couple of months!

I am so excited to get it all done!!

You'll definitely have to post some updated pics! Your dogs will sure be happy in that nice open yard!!

Yeah, I can't wait!

We were out there last night watering and scoping things out and noticed some potential problems. There is a retaining wall at the edge of the carport and bottom of the yard that we worry the dogs might jump over and hurt themselves. Then on one side of the yard there is a steep down sloop that could get them hurt too. So we will have to come up with something to fix all that.

The fence was finished last night ... there are still a few things we need to fine tune, but it is done; I am so excited :ura1:

We took the dogs out there a couple of times today and they seem all interested in everything, but not sure what to make of it yet. Of course my vocal girl Roxy likes to bark at the neighbors dogs down the street; lucky we don't have a dog right next door.

So here are a few pics ...

Here is the view from right outside the garage -

The gate -

There is some vines and such along the neighbors fence line (they let us tie on to theirs) that we need to get rid of. Earnie wants to discuss it with the neighbors first though; I am sure they won't mind -

I am a little worried about the dogs getting hurt on this slope -

Is this poison Ivy? I know there is some on the neighbors fence and we had some along the porch Earnie got rid of last night.

http://www.4theloveofsighthounds.com/misc/april%20012.jpg

Anyway; there are a few holes in the yard we need to fill, some roots we need to pull and a few gaps in the fence to fix, and we need to plant more grass, but we will get to that this weekend.

I messed around cutting some roots today (now I sort of feel all itchy; you think there are ticks out there?), I am sure there are some I missed; I will let DH get to that ;)

This is poison ivy. It likes to climb trees. Even if it is dead it can make you itch.

I'm jealous! I want our yard fenced in so bad! We only need 2 gates and one side done, other than that we would tie into both of our neighbors existing fences. Summit pretty much stays in the yard, unless the neighbor is cooking on the grill, and Dasie is tied up, she just lays there and chews sticks.

Again, I am jealous! :)

The backyard looks good! It must be nice to finally be able to just open the back yard for the dogs.

Do your doggies dig? My beagle used to push at the bottom a our chain link to make her escape :)

We are considering putting up a post & rail fence in our backyard. If Lily won't jump over a board, all we need to do is make sure the bottom rail is low enough

WebLady

Enzo and Roxy do not dig, but they will not ever be left alone out there anyway. I more worry about other random strays diggin or something.

In our area it would be the skunks, digging to get in :)
