I should have put the title as "Attention Tango!"

Alright so I'm considering making my own cupcakes (I like punishment apparently). It's just a thought right now! But if I do, I want to decorate them like the fall variety I found on another site.

Where would I get the fondant to make the leaves? Any good tips on coloring it or buying it colored? Where would I come across the gold dust that is brushed on? I know they must make it edible, they have everything else one can imagine. Just hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I am making my own cupcakes also and I wanted to put a small flower on them and I saw the fondant stuff at hobby lobby they have precolored and just white i think. I asked Tango about how to make them, so hopefully she has some ideas about how to make leaves. Good luck on those cupcakes though!! We are in over our heads i think..lol. I always do that to myself:notsure:

The flowers shouldn't be too hard if that is what you go with! I saw a how to on a blog...maybe Tango's foody blog *ponder* It can be as easy as getting two sizes of small flower "cookie" cutters and layering them, then indenting the center so they fold in a bit, and dropping a round center in :)

Measha, you could always get a rubber stamp in the shape of a leaf that will put the indentation of the leave veins on there and then cut out around the leaf in a shape of a leaf... ya know....

I plan on getting a small cookie cutter :) As for the "veins" the stamp might be a good idea, I could do it easily with somethingl ike a toothpick too though hehe.

I found some gold dust at Michael's and the quality is ok. Could probably be better, but I don't know where to find that stuff.

I have a few pictures of cupcakes I've made in my wedding journal (link in sig), but none of them use the gold dust.

I actually saw a maple leaf cutter recently....probably at Michael's. You can also get fondant/sugarpaste/gumpaste there. You can color it yourself with gel coloring (which you can buy at any grocery store) or there are a few pre-colored fondants out there.

As far as the veins go, I'd probably just go the toothpick route. That'd be fairly easy, I'd think.

And here are my flowers that you're talking about. Really SO easy!!

You can do a google search for decorating dusts and will find just about every color. Here's a great link for that:

Sugarcraft.com is also a great website for anything sugarcrafting related. You can buy anything on there.

:D Thanks! I'll definately check out the sight. I need to find where are closest Michael's is as well, oie!

Edited for a question after browsing.
It says that the dusts are approved as "edible" in Europe. But not by the FDA in America?

Although these items are classified as "edible" in Europe, in the United States they are classed as "NON-TOXIC FOR DECORATION ONLY" AND NOT considered edible. Buy at your own discretion. Sugarcraft presumes no responsibility for use on food, nor will any refund be issued.

That made me just a bit anxious, eep!

Meh. I wouldn't eat the stuff by the spoonful, but I don't worry about eating a little on a cupcake. :bblol:

Dragees (the little silver balls I used on those flowers I just posted) are also illegal some places (California included) - because they have tiny trace amounts of metal in them. People are sue-happy...they have to put warning labels on everything now.

Like I said, I use and eat both of those things and I'm still alive. *shrug*

I'm no nutritionist, but I'd say having french fries from McDonalds is WAY worse than a pound of these things. :bblol:
