My FH and I have been living together for over a year and already have everything we need so I was thinking about opening an alternative gift registry. Pretty much you put the non-materialistic things on it such as recipes, post reception cleanup help, maybe even some babysitting volunteers to give us random nights out without the little one throughout the year. Does this seem tacky? Its just that we really don't need any household items and I'm not very good at asking for gifts anyways. Here's one of the samples from the site I found...

What do y'all think, is it tacky?

I have never seen anything like this but, it is an interesting idea. I think it is fine, I would probably have done something like this ;)

I like the advice and help things; alot of people love to give advice to newlyweds and I am sure local people would be happy to offer help for those little things.

I think you just have to think about what your family may think; if they are fairly traditional then they will expect you to register the old fashioned way.

You may still get traditional gifts even if you don't register for them ;)

I come from a family of rednecks, closest thing they'll get me to traditional wedding gifts would probably be a shotgun with some tulle tied to it :frogg:

I think it's fine :)
It's actually a novelty but in a non-expensive-gift demanding way, so that people will think it's fairly original. I think it depends on you, but I wouldn't consider it rude.
