So I am in the process of starting to get my guest list at least semi-modified for a rough guestiment count. I am wanting to do my invites and STDs as DIY.
I have been searching for invitation making supplies but have not come up with any decent, reputable looking sites. Would anyone know of any good sites for the cardstock, stamps, embossing, and glue??? And what is and where can I get photoshop??

I used http://www.paperandmore.com and loved the quality and the prices were fair. As for photoshop, you are a student so you can get it for less through adobe at a student rate. However, if you have not used photoshop before I would recommend photoshop elements which is cheaper and easier to use. Also you can do a lot with microsoft publisher if you are just looking for making invitations and programs.

I suggest you go to Hobby Lobby or Michael's and first figure out what things are before you try to buy everything. That way you can get in there and get your hands on it...see what it looks/feels like for real.

Depends what you are going for the higher the lb or # the heavier the paper is. You may want very heavy paper but remember the heavier the paper the more $ it is to send it.

The lower the number, the heavier the stock is. The number represents the number of sheets you will get per pound. You should also know that 18 pound card stock will yield you less sheets per pound, than 18 pound bond.

I'm first trying to find if there is a book on how to make invitations.

For paper, I would suggest going to a Paper Zone if they have a store in your area. http://www.paperzone.com/
They will let you get a few samples to see if they work in your printer. I have problems with the Stardream metallic paper, but haven't had any problems with curious metallics. I also found that even #92 is too thick for a laser printer I have access to but it works fine in my inkjet.
I then ended up buying the paper I wanted from here http://www.paper-papers.com/ because it was $10 a pack cheaper, had no sales tax where I lived and even though I still have to pay for shipping I came out ahead. But I just ordered it, so I don't know if their site is reputable or not.

i would agree with going to the store and getting a couple things to try it out first. they usually have single sheets so you can mock up a couple invites before you order the bulk stuff.

My question is... so I am going with red, black, cream for the colors... in what way should I have the colors in order...
Should I have black back, then red.... what color ribbons?
Soooo confused... I am having the paper printed at a print shop which I am excited because I am getting 30% off of it!!! But need help just deciding which way to go.....

So I was in the process of ordering my materials for my invitations, and my father calls to have his input in this ordeal. My question is, what is needed in an invitation, he told me that I need to have a invitation in an envelope in an envelope...
I was just going to have the invitation in the addressed envelope... so what do I need??? I wanted red envelopes by my dad is telling me that I need to use a cream one for the outside one and then use a red one for the invitation to go in, to go into the cream outside envelope. SO WHAT DO I DO/NEED?!?!?!!?!?!?!

If you're going strictly traditional, your dad is right. But that is because way back when, invitations were hand written and the envelope (and the little piece of tissue/blotter paper) were used to keep the ink on the actual invite from spilling over onto everything else.
Nowadays you *don't* need a second envelope for the invitations, because your invitations won't be hand-written. Unless, of course, you're being ultra-formal . . .in which case, the invite style you've picked out would be totally inappropriate for a formal style :).
Clear as mud? Your invitations look semi-formal to me, so going with the typical invitation and outer envelope only would be ok.
Personally, because it will cost a lot less, I'm going with the invite, two maps of the locations, and a card saying to RSVP and for more information please go to our Wedding Website (www.blahblah.com (http://www.blahblah.com)). There's no need for anything more. I'll probably use those pull-apart business cards that you can buy blank, slap the border on them (in a contrasting color to the invites) and print them at home, just like I will with our invites.
Hope that helps!

I know this isnt a reply to help you but I just wanted to let you know that your invites are going to be super cute! I love those colors together, and they are what I wanted for a long time, but I work at Steak n Shake, and if you have never been there the colors there are red, black and white. And fh works there also as a manager and we didnt want people thinking we were having a sns wedding..lol. Sorry for the life tidbit:geek:

My suggestion with your colors would be to go with the bottom layer a black metallic for the shimmer effect border. Then over this place the cream paper stock. Accent with the red colors. use black ribbon as well. Remember if you are doing them at home you can't print wording onto black paper.
