I purchased my wedding dress 7 months before my wedding. I starting looking about a month prior to that. I purchased my wedding dress off the rack so I did not have to wait. Then, I had about three fittings.

I would say no longer then 6 months prior to your wedding date. But the sooner the better, expectly if it is a hard to fit wedding dress.

On bridemaids dresses no longer then 4 months! I ordered mind in Janurary and did not get them till two weeks before the wedding (May 1)! I was stressed.

Thanks

Anytime now through January would be a perfect time to look and put a deposit down on a wedding dress. This time of the season there are a lot of older wedding dress styles that are discontinuing and a lot new ones coming in for the New Year.

When you go into the bridal shop or call around ask how long is the average wait time to get in a wedding dress.

No later then four months prior to your wedding for the bridesmaid dresses. I would say no later then May to decide on a style.

If all your bridesmaids are local you can even have them come with you to the bridal shop and you can have them try on bridesmaid dress while you try on wedding dresses.

I say whenever you want. If you know you will be that same size or close that the dress can be taken in or out go for it. Really if you find a nice deal too its worth it!

Also remember it takes awhile to get dresses in if you dont buy off the rack! I bought my dress last month and it wont be in until Jan. I get married in Feb!

I think it depends on which company you are dealing with. I'm getting married in Sept 2005, and I was told that to order a dress will take 6-8 months. I always plan for the worse, so 8 months plus 1 month for alterations (usually 3 fittings), and always add an extra month in case of error. Companies can always make mistakes- and you don't want to be without a dress on your wedding day. So it's best to plan for the worst, and allow room for errors.

It's best to have your dress months in advance, than days before the wedding.

This brings you to 10 months total time to order the dress. But I think it's best to confirm with store who deals with the manufacturer on a regular basis.

I got married in September, and bought my dress in February. . .but with alterations & such it wasn't ready until end of June.

I am getting married in April 2008...6 weeks or so...yikes! Anyhow, I was so excited about the wedding that I started looking right after we got engaged. I found my dress in January of 2007 and bought in April 2007. Seems a little early, but they told me it could take up to 9 months for it to come in. Needless to say it was to the store in 1 month. Needless to say...I had it almost and entire year now and everytime I look at it I still smile and know I made the right choice. Still get tears everytime too. My bridesmaids ordered there dresses in August 2007 and they came in December. I am the type of person that worries about timelines, so I knew I had to take care of those things quick because I didn't want it to consume my mind the entire time I was making plans for the wedding.

I, too, started shopping soon after getting engaged (started at the first of this month and not getting married till May 2009). I somehow find my dream dress at the very first place I went. However, I am waiting till July to order it, because they are having a trunk sale by the designer then so I can get 10% off. Sometimes starting early can save money. :)
