Has anyone made their own garters? Can I see pictures? Do you have a step-by-step?

So many questions!

They are quite easy to make if you can sew at all. The ones I made for myself were made from cotton fabric and some lace. I cut a 2 pieces three to four times as long as I wanted the garter. When you sew, you put the right sides together (the sides that you want to show after you sew them). Place the lace between the two parts of fabric and sew. Turn them right side out. Cut a piece of elastic to fit where you want your garter to be around your leg. Thread it thru...sew it to stay...and there you have it.

PS. I learned the hard way (by making a set for my cousin)...if you are going to use silk, make sure you have wide enough seams that they won't come apart. Silk frays easily and the seams will come apart if you don't make them extra wide.

Let me know if you have any other questions. They are easy to do...and not real time consuming, but don't leave it until the last minute like I did for my cousin. lol

The only thing I sew are teddy bears. I make a lot of them randomly for friends, of the small and jointed variety. I like crafts, and to keep my hands busy. I can't run a sewing machine to save my life  I guess it's just a bit intimidating! The garter thing that is.

Do you know how to crochet? A friend of mine crocheted mine. I can get the pattern for you, if it would help.

If you can sew anything, you can sew a garter. It's just a couple of straight seams.

If you don't want anything too adventerous..I could sew it for you. I don't have access to much in the way of charms...but I could sew the basic garter and you could add the charm later if you'd like.

I might just bother you later on about some more detailed instructions :) If I find a lace and fabric I want! And, I've never made anything someone actually had to wear hehe!

Here's the one my friend made for me http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=181057.0

I had no idea what she was gonna come up with, but I lovvvved it! It's our wedding colors. I wore deep red wine shoes, so it matched my naughty red perfectly. :bblol:

Thanks! I was ecstatic with it!

I wore two garters, though. :D One to wear & one to toss. We didn't want to toss that one, lol.
