Holiday 2007 Ornament Exchange

Hey everyone, I think we are gonna start the sign up for this soon (maybe even today) This should give everyone a couple of weeks to sign up (through Nov 9th), then we can do the name draw thing.

I figure if we get going now, then everyone will have a few weeks to shop and get their packages sent out.

We are going to use www.elfster.com to help organize this. So post here if you are interested and I will look up your email and add you to the list on the elfster site and send you and invite to participate :frogg:

Then you can accept from the email you receive and it will automatically create an account for you. Then you can make up a "wish list" to share your preferences (and of course your mailing address) with your secret buddy :)

You can also send anonymous messages to your secret buddy through the site, so that is cool if you need to ask questions about something.

Of course the exchange is to send a holiday ornament to your 'buddy'; we set the spending limit to $10 before shipping. We ask that everyone have their packages sent out by Dec 10th.

We will start another thread for people to give thanks to their buddy and post pictures later too :D

EDIT: The only rule is that you be an active member being here at least 3 mos and/or have at least 100 posts.

Holiday 2007 Ornament Exchange is the title; it is like a "Secret Santa" gift exchange, except with ornaments ;)

Everyone signs up then we will draw names and you will send an ornament of some sort (your buddy should have a "Wish List") to the person you get. Someone else will do the same for you :)

You can edit your profile on the elfter site to add your address or you can just wait for the exchange and your buddy can request it.

You can add suggested items or theme ideas to your wish list, you can also add the URL of where to get it if you want. But your buddy doesn't have to buy from the elfster site or anything. This is just ideas so you are more apt to get something your buddy will like.

For example; I just put that I like modern looking things and that my tree is decorated in silver, pink, purple and blue ;)

Once you get your buddy, you can click on "Ask so and so a question" in their profile.

FYI - Incase anyone was wondering about posting their address and such, I sent a question about the privacy to the people running the Elfster site and this is what they responded with ...

By default your email and address information are only visible to people that your are in a gift exchange with. Optionally, the organizer of your exchange can set it up so that your email and address are only visible to just the person that drew your name.

I made the exchange private so no one will know who got who; so only myself and your buddy will see your address and such. Hope this will make you all feel safer :bbmrgreen:

Good luck! It can be hard but it's worth it, and if you don't succeed keep trying. It took me till the 3rd time quitting to get it right.

IMHO you should include your return address just in case it can't be delivered. At least it will be returned to you. It needn't be a secret when your recipient receives it. You will be "outed" then :)

USPS is the way to go. If you ship via Priority Post, it's not all that expensive and you get a tracking id# as well.

There is a place in your Elfster profile where you can add your address. What I was told by the Elfster people is that when we set the exchange as private that no one other than those in our exchange group can see the profiles.

But if you all still don't want to put your address that is fine, your buddy will just have to message you for it.

Just make sure that the company doesn't send anything with your name on it to them, since it is a secret santa thing. It's probably much cheaper to just have a company send it.

It's quite alright to do that and probably a better idea so that you don't have to pay for shipping twice.

You shouldn't have the same person that had you. I will PM your SS and try to get the right address.

From what I can gather, there are 3 or 4 people who have still not received an ornament. I have sent PM's to each of these people and their SS and hope something can be worked out, even late.

Otherwise, the people who didn't send a gift when they committed to by signing up, will be exempt from any other board exchanges or contests in the future.
