Does anybody know if a passport is required to travel by air from the US to the US Virgin Islands for a US citizen? My friend is getting married in November and a bunch of us had this last minute idea to give them a honeymoon as a wedding gift. They don't have their passports though so we're trying to figure out our options. I've looked online a little, but I keep on finding all of this different info. Thanks for any help guys!

Traveling To and From U.S. Territories

U.S. Citizens traveling to and returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the U.S. territory and do not need to present a passport.
U.S. territories include:

American Samoa
Guam
Northern Mariana Islands
Puerto Rico
Swains Island
U.S. Virgin Islands

I guess the only way to know for sure is to contact a travel agent or agency to make sure they dont need it.

Good Luck and what a great set of friends to do that and send them on a honeymoon :)

Thanks guys! I'm calling about it tomorrow, but I was just curious! Yeah, my friend and her fiance just bought their first home. She gave up her honeymoon that she had always dreamed about...sipping a tropical drink on a beach with beautiful water...so that they could get a house and start a family. I know that she doesn't regret her decision, but I know that she's a little sad about the situation as a whole. We really want to do this for her. I hope that we can manage it!

That is such a sweet thing to do if you can manage it!

As for your friend ... imho, she's being wise. A house is harder to come by for some, than others. Down the road they can take other trips but they will make plenty of memories, that will last a lifetime in the house :) :) :)
