I know I have some time yet before I have to worry about this, but my mom and I were talking about it today. When it comes to the bridal shower, who is invited? Is it just my women friends invited to the wedding? What I mean is, there are two men from work that FH and I are inviting to the wedding and of course they are going to be bringing their wives. One of the wives I have met and talked to a couple times but don't know very well at all. The other I have only met once and it was just a quick hi, nice to meet you. Do they get invited too even though we don't really know eachother?

Personally I would only invite people you know. Since it is expected to bring gifts to the shower, it can be seen as rude to invite someone you hardly know ... kind of like you just want an extra gift. I actually felt this way when I got invited to a cousin of my DH's bridal shower. We don't speak to them and I have never even met her. I didn't go and we didn't go to the wedding either.

As for inviting men, sure you can do that if you want. It is all up to you and/or who is throwing it and how you want it to go and if there will be anything that men will care to do at the party. Like if you plan on playing all the games and talking girl stuff then maybe don't invite the men ;)

Best wishes,

Instead of a bridal shower you could always have a jack and jill party. Otherwise I would probably only invite the women I know. Maybe you can ask your co workers if they think you should invite their wives. You know just tell them you are having a bridal shower and you don't want to hurt anyones feelings by not inviting someone. Would your wife want to come? Or would she feel awkward cause she won't know anyone.

I know I probably wouldn't go if I didn't know anyone that was going to be there. Personally I am not having any parties but if I did I would do the jack and jill so the women can have their men with them. If there is alot of people who don't know eachother that could make everyone more comfortable together.

Hi Ladies,
I agree with Becky, you could approach your male co-workers and ask their opinion. I think they would appreciate it and probably see it as a nice gesture! And who knows they might come. It is always hard making up invite lists, you don't want to offend anyone.....
Good Luck, and if you need any more advice, we are all here for!

Pretty sticky situation..If they are the wives of some friends, then id say yes..If you respect the wives, then it shows you respect your friends as well...plus it would give you a chance to get to know them!!!

Thanks for the advise! I figured I probably wouldn't invite them since I don't know them well and they really won't know anyone either there. But I may mention something to the guys at work when the time gets closer. Thanks!

Well, I was gonna just comment with the reputation thingy but I gotta 'spread the love' ;) So I just wanted to say that I like the idea of the 'Jack & Jill' Party.

DD you've never heard of a Jack and Jill party? They are pretty common where I live. I guess I assumed they were everywhere.

I really want a Jack and Jill party, so I am hoping to talk Patrick into it. My step brother had a Jack and Jill Baby Shower and I liked it much better then just a bunch of women sitting around gossiping...

It's a couples shower. Pretty much the same as a bridal shower but the men come with their SO.

Hi Jamesbabygirl,
A jack and jill party is pretty much a party for the bride and groom. Men and Women are invited to this. These are a great way for the bride and groom to make some extra cash before the wedding and also a fun nite for all. I have been to sooo many of these. At the ones that I have been to, there are games set up for people to play (of course you have to pay to play)! I have also seen raffle items that you buy tickets for and if your ticket is drawn you win that item! They are very fun!!!! :p

Jack and Jill parties are pretty common here for baby showers. I personally wouldn't mind skipping the shower all together. Y'all know how I hate the attention and that's just another time to be the center of it all. Not to mention I'm goign to end up have two bridal parties. One down by my parents and one here with FH's family....sigh....I hate the attention.

Ok....around here the guys absolutely do NOT go to the showers. If any of the guys I know went to their wives showers thay aint admitting it to ANYBODY!! The Jack and Jill parties we refer to are a Bachelor and Bachelorette party thrown together. This is what me and Brian are doing.
