Erm.. Yeah, i'm pretty sure we are going to be doing this for our favors, but of course i wanted to know what you girls thought!
Our idea is to get all the adults a dollar lotto ticket. We will have a good friend or relative to hand these out (because you KNOW there will be this one person to snatch a bunch..). Anyway, we will have them scratch them at the receiption, to see if we have any winners!! =D I think it sounds like fun.. And someone could get lucky! What do you guys think?

I think that would be a very cute and completely different type of wedding favor. I like it.

Well IMO depending on your number of guests, it could or will be expensive. What would the people who didn't win anything feel?? I mean it is something different but to me a waste of money and I would rather my guests go home with candy or a little keepsake, I know as a guest at a wedding I would rather go for the candy then a non-winning lottery ticket.... just something to think about....

We are having 100 people (we have to pay for, because they say at least 100 people for a Sat at my place) but some of those will be kids. Only the adults would be getting one. The reason as i see this as do-able is because i would be paying this much for favors, anyway. I don't want to really get anything with our names on it.. Seriously, wo doesn't just shove it into a closet when they get home, anyway? lol. I'd get candy, but i have a lot of diabetic family and friends.. I know i could get them sugar free, but it still sucks for them.. :(

me personally I have never kept a wedding favor to date.

I've actually seen this used as a favor before --they put them in a card holder that said "wishing you riches from the new Mr. and Mrs." It was cute and fun--and no one minded if they lost! The only thing is definatey have someone handing them out because at this wedding they put one at each place setting and someone went around and took them off of whole tables so a lot of people ended up not getting them.
Good Luck!

Ok, this is just my opinion....but I'm really not a big fan of any form of lotto. Just never appealed to me as fun or thrilling. Most of the time it tends to be a waste of money. Again, just my two cents, I could be a minority here :).

I think it could be kinda cute! I agree with Hummingbird about not keeping many of the traditional favors (like the bubbles or little bells, almonds, candy whatever). But I mean ... if you went to a wedding and you got a lottery ticket you would kinda have a little rush right? I would!!! LOL
You could even do something like making little bows with tags that say, "Lucky In Love" or something! I like it!!!

Neko I know see your point as well as everyone elses, if this is what you wanna do go for it hun. I agree with the ladies have someone hand them out and to the adults or whats the 18 or older??? and decorate them up.... go for it

I think I like the idea, too! I'd probably try to decorate them up or something, like Cuffs said.
I have always thrown away favors, too. The lotto ticket would be fun, IMO! :frogg:

I have seen this once before too! But it was sort of a Vegas theme thing and they had candy coins with it too.

yah i like this idea- i just think maybe it could get expensive. what i would do is go get glassine envelopes and make them their place card holders and favors- The glassine envelopes are like 5.00 for 100 or something- very cheap- and print out labels that say "Wishing you riches from the new mr and mrs" on one side and on the other put their name and place them at their seats.
Good IDEA- i always liek this but i worry that at 1.00 a piece it costs alot ( i am doing a bunch of favors and for under 1.00pp -but i also have alot more people then you -
i thought about doing these myself :)

Well, I really like the idea. Nobody keeps favors anyway but this is something fun and odds are somebody will win $100 or so and several will win $20. It should be fun! Good idea!

Thanks guys! Yeah, i know there are negitives to it, like people not liking the scratch offs, or maybe it just being a little pricey.. But i think the postives out weigh it (at least, for me). Thanks so much for your opinions! OH, and the note idea sounds so cute!! =D It'd have to be like a card holder or something though, since i'm having someone hand them out..

I don't play the lotto (IMHO it's a waste of money) but I don't mind getting them in a birthday card or in my Christmas stocking :)
Just something you might think about though .... if you are inviting any particularly religious guests, they will not appreciate the favour. The reason being is that lottos are gambling and gambling is not permitted.

Depends highly on the religion and/or age of the religious person. I happen to be religous and don't find anything too horrible with gambling. I doubt most would see it as anything more than innocent fun, however if it's an older person, and more old fashioned person I could see how they -might- get iffy.

Thanks for the tip.. I had thought about that, my highly religious grandma keeps telling my mom to win the darn lotto, though! XD So i don't think we will have any problems. His side should be fine, too. =D His mom is actually the one that showed me the scratch off idea from someones table at grecian center (they were setting up for someones wedding). So.. Thanks though!

thats great that his mom is cool with it too- i wouldnt care what my family said- we decided against it b/c his mom said no-
FH and I won the grand prize on ticket a couple years back and now its a big joke that every time someone we are with buys a scratchoff they ask FH and i to "bless" it hehe!! we thought our friends and family would find it cute if WE GAVE them each a scratch off then- but his mom freaked.. :)
Personally i think it will be a great idea- Maybe you could do it like while everyone is sitting and then make a kind of game out of it- like ask the table to figure out who won the biggest prize and have the dj ask each table who the winner was at the table. it will make good conversation pieces!!

LOL true enough. My minister was telling me that he caught flack from some members of the congregation when we raffled off a quilt in the church (especially because he bought a ticket). It didn't matter to the people that quilt was donated or that the monies raised were going to a good cause.

That's kind of nuts, to the quilt lotto.
As to the topic at hand (no didn't derail at all nope! :sweatdrop:) in the end it is -your- judgement call. You know your friends, family, etc far better than we do :).
And the idea of putting them in the little envelopes with the "Lucky in Love" or some other nice phrasing was even growing on me, hehe!

Hehe, we aren't having a DJ (trying to cut costs) But we ARE getting a mic.. I'm having my aunt (she volenteered tonight) pass out the scratch offs after everyone is seated. We could probably get one of our bridal party (or even Steve or I) to see who won the most!! Hehe

Thats a really good idea.. =D Like, right before cake time! And then while we have dessert, people will be all excited and stuff talking about who won and lost! =D Fun!! I'm so excited now!!

LOL! The only thing i'm worried about is Grandma or my great aunt and uncle winning the money.. I'll have to hid from them after that, because they'll keep trying to give it to me!! lol. My grandma is sneaky though.. When i don't take $$ from her, she just hides it in my purse.. >.< Heh. I won't have a purse then though.. <3

I would like it as a favor. (haha and I am a ministry student) I enjoy scratching off a ticket when someone gives one to me, I don't buy them myself, but my grandparents actually give all the grandkids one every Christmas... its always fun to see who will win.

I agree with putting a cute little tag around it with a nice saying. I definitely would like to get a lotto ticket if I went to a wedding. It would be a nice rush. And who knows someone might win big.
I definitely like it!!:D

I think its a cute and differnt idea. I especially like the litte "lucky in love" tag line someone mentioned above. I would think that the adults who didn't win anything could be mature enough to handle the loss, after all, it was a gift to them.

Ooo, i'm actually starting to think that i could have my aunt and younger (about 12/13 by the time of the wedding) could hand them out while people sat down.. Then we can use the mic and have a friend announce the scratch off! It'd be neat! And that way, we wouldn't need a wrapper or anything to cover them.. I won't put them on the table, because theres no way i would trust that someone wouldn't snatch up more than one.. Awful to say though. :(

From looking at websites when planning my wedding, I saw that lotto tickets/stratch offs were popular on 7-7-07. They made some called Lucky 7 or something like that.
