Photo Scavanger Hunt Contest

Starting today, the contest will run for 10 days (through next Wednesday). Players will accrue points by posting pictures (from list below); there will be two winners, the first place winner will get $50 and the runner up will get $25!! *Prize money will be paid via PayPal*

When posting your pics, please explain what they are to represent from the list (tell us more than just the number from the list please), if you took it and all that good stuff.

All images are worth 2 points unless otherwise noted.
*bonus = 5pts if you are IN the pic*

ETA - The rules and guidelines may be edited for clarification as needed and comments important to the contest may be posted in the thread so keep a look out.

The idea is to have fun and be creative here. But, pictures won't count if they just "sort of" or partially fit in the category or theme. Also, you can only get points for one image in each category on the list. Pictures posted must be actually photographs, not paintings or graphic images. Although photos from stock photo sites (like .istockphoto.com) will not count. Pics that have been digitallly altered or "Photoshop'd" will not count either.

You will not get double bonus points for taking a picture of yourself. So if you take the pic of yourself that fits into one of the items on the list, then you'd get higher of the two bonus', but not both. The most a picture will be worth is 5 pts.

Also, the pictures need to be big enough so that we can tell what they are suppose to be, but of course not too big. So lets keep them to no bigger than 400x500 pixels. Also, it is easier for us to judge and for others to see what has already been used if you all post the images direct in the post (using the [img] tags). This means only 4 pics per post because of the way the board image rules are already. If the image doesn't show in the post, it won't count.

Abuse of the contest and/or not following the rules and guidelines will result in disqualification.

It will be up to the mods to decide if something qualifies for points or not. All pictures will be reviewed and points will be tallied at the end of the contest.

LOL; you could hold it up your face and take the pic yourself or have someone else take the pic; be creative ;) But the fit for the "something hot" we have to see the "heat"; steam, fire, lava, boiling water, hot peppers, etc ;)

I assume this is suppose to be for the reflection thing, but this is one of those that one would have to really look to see (I still don't see it) so it probably won't count.

How about a reflection in a puddle of water, in a shinny car, a hub cap, in someone's sunglasses, a store window, pretty much anywhere but a mirror. But it just needs to be clear.

I could post examples of all of these things, but then that would be one less picture to use ;)

The first one is fine, but I don't think the last two really work. There is a sample of perspective a couple of pages back and the car could just as well be standing still. Better picture of motion would be an action shot of some kind; someone riding a bike, a running animal, someone dancing, etc.

You can only get points for one of each item on the list. If the images are random ones found on the web them they can only be used twice; the first person to post it gets the full 2pts, the next gets 1pt and then that particular image is "locked out" and no longer counts for anyone else.

Also, we ask that you post the item description and not just the number, so we know what you are going for. This makes it easier for us to judge later.

And, you have to post the image IN your post with the [IMG] tags, not just links. If you can't get it to work then you can try to convert the link with tinyurl.com (as I did here with the pic of the ball) but just links won't count. It is going to be hard enough to review all the images and tally points as it is ;)

hmmm; well I don't know ... I have never noticed this happen; maybe sometimes when photobucket is down I guess. We will look at this on a per case basis; if the photo was there and good before and it is not when we go to review and tally points we will try to look at the code and see if we can figure out what happened.

Well with traditional photo scavenger hunts, you can't use pics from the Internet, you have to go out and take them all yourself. In this case we decided to allow web pics, but to be fair we had to limit the amount of times they could be used. So as it states in the rules, the first person gets 2pts for any particular web image, the second time that pic is used it is only worth 1 pt. After that then the particular image is "locked out" and no longer valid for the contest.

I know it is going to be hard to go back through all the pics to see what has been used, and we don't expect you all to do so. But if we catch it we will ty to tell you. Otherwise, just know that all the images submitted will be reviewed at the end up the contest and everything you all post may not count.

I didn't really look that closely at the one you are referring to, but once you post something for whatever category that is it. If we catch it and tell you it won't work and you can post something else right after then that is fine, otherwise you can't go back to that category.

Yeah, we are not going to be able to do that; once you post it that is it.

If it is something that we caught and told you wouldn't work then you would have say 2 or 3 posts after to post a replacement, after that you will just have to move on to the next thing.

We can't just let people post one thing then find something else or decide to take something better later; that is just not fair :geek:

Hers was a car mirror was it not? We will have to look at that later, but I think that a picture of a reflection is a car mirror is little less common that a regular mirror. To replace it you only have a few posts after the "catch" or you missed out.

Ideally the reflection thing should be like in water, in a store window, someone's sunglasses, ect ... I have a picture of my dog somewhere where she is looking at her reflection in the oven door in the kitchen ;)

Is there any way that you can let me know which ones I do have that count? I think I have fixed most of them. I'm not sure about post #198, 211, and 243, if they can be seen or not. I can't see the Ronald McDonald here at the library but the other 2 I can in post #198.
