I went to a wedding last night where the bride had used balloons over the dance floor area. They were hot pink and black (her colors) and it was mega cute. I am think about using this idea but doing all white balloons and using satin ribbon in blue and green (my colors) I am having white table clothes with lime satin runners and a blue satin monogramed squares in the middle. Centerpieces are candles. I thought that bringing the satin back in with the ribbon (in various widths) hanging down from the balloons would be cute. BUT-are balloons too cheesy/cheap looking? Also, how might i keep these balloons from floating all over? I know you guys will have some awesome suggestions! How many do you guess it will take to cover a 12x12 area?
We did the ballons over the dance floor at one of our christmas parties. It looks really nice, and they didn't fly away. They also had the icicle lights around the perimeter of the dance floor, it made a nice "glow".
We had balloons and the kids loved them. They weren't all over the dance floor...there was confetti for that. We had a lot of fun with both.

Did this for my first wedding. The balloons will tend to clutter together and move if a vent (for example) is pushing them to one end of the room. They stayed on the ceiling all night.
You can save a pile of $$$ by buying your balloons by the gross (144), renting a helium tank (the place we rented it from delivered and picked it up) and having (hiring) some teens or kids that you know to blow them up, the morning of the wedding. They get a kick out of sucking down some of the helium as they work & talking to each other.
You can also make centerpieces out of them by grouping a bunch together and tying them to a weight, which is placed on the table.

If you want to get fancy, hire a party store to make you a baloon arch

I love balloons! I have several styles of dance floor canopies. I plan on using one of the these. I have heard people say that balloons are cheap but I don't think that they are.

I love the ball drop idea. That pic is awesome.
I have heard people say that balloons are cheap but I don't think that they are.
If you do it yourself it can be.
At the time, I think we paid $40 for the helium tank rental and $15.00 for each gross of balloons (x2) for a total of $70.00. The least expensive price we got for (silk) centerpieces was $10 but I needed 15 - 20 and the flowers wouldn't have decorated the reception hall.
I see now that you can buy the helium tanks from Costco -

Oh my gosh, you guys are awesome! Great suggestions! I love the pics too! Keep them coming. I was thinking of renting the heluim tank because the disposable ones you buy only do about 30 balloons and cost $20 each. What type of place would rent a helium tank?

I know IParty sells them and honestly, I think they rent them out too. If not then try a smaller party store locally.
If you want, I'm sure you could definitely rent one online? Good luck, and I love the balloon idea :)

I rented it before the days of internet so we just looked in the yellow pages under hellium. We live in a big city center so there were a few places to choose from.

done right, balloons can work. you have to make sure that your venue will allow them though- they might be upset if they are all over b/c when they pop- they might stick to the dance floor or something.
Even our little town has a place that you can rent helium. It's like a "Rent-A-Center" place...but our own version.

Try going to a welding supply store, they rent out helium tanks.

Oh I LOVE THIS IDEA ! And it is definitely something we could do ourselves !
Party City and Party Plus in NC rents helium tanks for about $15 dollars, and I just did a search for helium balloons and there are suppliers everywhere -- the prices didn't look toooo bad at all !
I can't wait to show my neices these pictures. These gals will want to fill the ballons with confetti so when they pop, the confetties go everywhere. Now the venu might not like it, but hey, worth a phone call to see.
You guys are the greatest !
Now to get that budget in line to afford this little idea................
Best - Gen
