When you don't have an inner envelope for the invitations, how do you address the outside?
Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Doe
& family
or Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Doe & family
or do you list the children by name? I'm so confused!
Hmmm I have no idea. I need to know that too.
the way i did it was:
Mr & Mrs John Doe
Michael, Thomas & Joseph Doe (kids)
I listed the kids under the parents. Plus that way it was clear that they were invited.
Hope that helps. I am not sure if there is a rule though, so it's more what you prefer.

Everything I have read states the following is appropriate:
Mr. & Mrs. John Smith and Family (outter envelope)
John, Marylnn, Sammy and Samantha (inner envelope has husband, wife, and kids names spelled out)
That's how I've got mine set up to print.
Hope it helps.

Mr. & Mrs. John Smith and Family (outter envelope)

I read on a couple etiquette sites that "& family" or "& guest" is no longer appropriate. So I guess I'll just list the kids under the parents, since there's no inner envelope.

I hate the Mr & Mrs John Smith (where's the wife's name? she's now just an appendage???)
So this is what we did -- we had seal-n-sends
Mr. & Mrs. John & Jane Smith
Billy & Sally
if we didn't know the kids names it was & family.
We wanted everyone to make sure the kids knew they were invited
oh and if the couples weren't married we addressed it with the SO name but with whomever we knew first.
Ms. Jane Doe & Mr. John Smith
Billy & Sally
May not have been the "right" etiquette....but no one has said anything, and it kept me happy.

I was thinking of enumerating on the envelope... But sometimes it can get complicated when the kids don't have the same last name as their parents (one family who is coming have 3 different last names in the family). In that case I'd just put the names of the couple you're inviting and an & family.

I'm such a ding bat. I didn't even know you were suppose to print on the inside envelope. Too late now...they are already gone, maybe that's why I haven't received very many back.
