Alright, ladies! I know we have a lot of talented women out there that love to cook! Post your favorite recipes. Wanna know what would make it more special? If you posted your F/DH's favorite meal! After we get enough recipes, I'm thinking about turning this into an e-book or a book that can be purchased to help fund the website! Start posting! With your recipes, please include a little bit about the recipe/where you got it from, etc.

I think that's a wonderful idea...I actually have an account set up through a wesbite that allows you to sell stuff like this and you get a percentage. I can make a OneWed Shop through it! :)

I have a website sort of like that too ;) But if Levi goes for the idea we will be able to sell it on the OneWed site; especially if that is what it is to benifit :)

AWESOME Idea! Well I am a fan of the simple -- so here are 2 sides/apptizers
Red Lobster Garlic Cheese Biscuits
(OMG - I could eat baskets of them)
Get some bisquik mix and follow basic instructions
Mix in some shredded cheedar cheese
Bake according to bisquick instructions
Melt butter and garlic salt
Brush on right when they come out of the oven
**Tastes JUST like the biscuits at Red Lobster***
Mexican White Cheese Dip
- This is really simple -
Go to your deli and buy some white american cheese (A 1/2 a pound makes A LOT) I recommend Boars Head or Land o Lakes.
Cut the cheese up in cubes or just break up the slices and put in a microwave safe bowl.
Pour in some milk (about 2/3 of a cup -- I always just guess)
Add some chopped jalepeno's (optional)
Pop in the microwave for about 1.5 minutes
Take out and stir
Put back in the microwave for a few more minutes
Serve with chips and salsa --- it is sooo good! Just like the cheese dip at Mexican Restaraunts.
Ok - they are kinda simple, but I am not Emeril!!! LOL:notsure:
I think this is a fantastic idea! I am so excited to see all the different recipes.
I'm into easy also. One of our favorites is Chicken in Salsa.
You use Skinless Chicken Breasts (seasoned the way you like)
I put them in the crock pot (you can do it in the oven, too)
Add a bottle of salsa
Let it cook thruout the day. The chicken comes out so tender.
One day I did this same thing, but used a venison roast (deer). It was soooo good. Bruce was a little skeptical..but thought it was fantastic.
Also, I love to bake. I'll have to go find some of our dessert recipes.

haha didn't think so! I think its just a Nebraska thing. They don't eat them here in TN either but most of my family is from NE and they have a Runza drive through. But my mom makes them homemade and they are just to DIE for. Its like a pocket of dough filled with hamburger and cheese and stuff and then put in the oven. MMMMmmmmMMMM. I don't have the recipe with me but I will post it later.

For now, let's just use this thread to talk about the idea of an e-book/printed book. If we are going to post recipes on here, it wouldn't make much sense to put the book up for sale when you can just get the recipes on here.
I'm thinking a good title for the book would be "The Way to a Man's Heart." Then we could post our FH/DH's in the book. Maybe even some recipes that our mother's made for our fathers that were/are his favorite.

I call this "Nana's Pudding" and Jon just loves it :frogg:
1 cup sugar
1 cup of orange juice
1/2 lemon juice
1 package of knox gelatin
3/4 of angel food cake
1 pint of whipping cream
1/4 cup of cold water
1/2 cuop of hot water
Combine cold water with gelatin. Then pour hot water in and stir. Combine orange juice and lemon juice and stir. Put in fridge for 20 mins. You want it thick but dont let it turn into jello! So you kind of have to keep an eye on it.
Mix sugar and whipping cream together. Whip the cream till it is fuffy and thick. Mix gelatin mixture it. Crumble the angel food cake in. At this point it should be getting thicker. Put in fridge for 20 mins or until ready to serve.
I like to top it with mandarin oranges for taste and color.
That is such a great idea. I'll have to get some recipes together!

I am just SO excited about this! I'd been thinking about posting this thread for a while, but Tango and TWU (?)'s cupcake pictures were the final say.
And by the way, my previous post said something along the lines of posting FH/DH in the cookbook. Oops! I meant posting his favorite recipes! This does include desserts. LOL, don't post FH/DH!!! I know they all look yummy, but I'm sure it is dangerous for human consumption. :)
By the way, if we wanna get this going, please post in this poll (http://forums.onewed.com/showthread.php?t=10315). It would be very helpful.

Seafood Mornay
This was a popular dish I cooked in a restuarnt towards the end of my career as a Chef.
1/2 pound scallops
1 1/4 pounds shrimp
1/2 cup white wine
24 oysters
1/2 cup vermouth
1/3 cup butter
1 tablespoon finely minced onion
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups milk
1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
2/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup crushed saltine crackers
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
Preheat oven to 350*F.
In a skillet or shallow pan poach scallops and peeled, cleaned shrimp in white wine for 3 to 4 minutes; drain.
In a seperate pan, poach oysters in vermouth. Combine the seafood and spoon into a baking dish.
Melt butter in a heavy saucepan; add minced onion and saute until tender. Add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Add shredded Gruyère cheese, shredded Swiss cheese, and grated Parmesan cheese; stir until melted and smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Spoon the sauce over the seafood and sprinkle with crushed crackers and paprika. Drizzle with melted butter or margarine.
Bake for 20 to 30 minutes.
Matt's PB Glazed Turkey

Favorite Poultry Spices
1 Stick Butter
1 1/2 cups water
Mix seasoning with PB. Spread evenly on turkey (to make this easier wipe turkey dry with paper towell)
Place in roaster with butter and water.
Cook as normal, basting at regulr intervals.
The oil in the peanut butter will get asorbed into the meat.

Ok, we are really going to start working on this soon.
I was thinking we could do themed sections, like "The way to a mans heart" would be one that had recipes for DH/FH fav meals. Then maybe one for DIY reception food; hor dorves, punch, etc. Maybe one for "Family friendly meals", "Meals in a hurry", Desserts, etc ... What do you guys think of that? Any ideas for other theme ideas and names?
From now on please submit your recipes (along with a little about it and where you got it and such) to either myself or 'tinkerjew' via PM; we will compile them and when we have everything we need we will put it together :frogg:
ETA - Please PM recipes you would like to be included even if you have posted here before.

It would be best if it was yours, a family recipe, or maybe something you modified from elsewhere. But if you have a recipe you love that came from another source that is fine too; just submit it along with where you got it so we can put the original credit in there if we use it.

I tried to copy the ones posted in the thread previously, so with that and the few I have received PM's of, I have 8 :frogg:
I think we will do sections like; your man's fav meals, fun foods, quick meals, meals the kids love, healthy meals, (maybe even healthy alternatives to your fav meals), desserts, DIY wedding reception foods (including punch and such) and maybe even beverages and cocktails.
So if you have a recipe that fits into these sections, or if you can think of other theme section ideas, send 'em on :bbmrgreen:
I won't have access to any recipes until this weekend, but I'll definitely get some to you!

Just a thought but most cookbooks have a conversion page; and and a subsitue page in them, are you planning on having thoses in there?
Someone mentioned that with out eggs and oil in a recipe that you get you end up getting a no cholesterol, EGGS as far as I know do not have cholesterol in them. It is the OIL; depending on what kind you use, that adds the cholesterol. Some one please correct me if I am wrong.
WebLady
09-18-2007, 11:54 AM
Not all recipe books have this, and no we had not planned to add it. For the most part we are just going to make it a compilation of recipes divided into theme categories (mans favs, fast meals, desserts, etc) But if anyone wants to submit something like this that is fine with me ;)

Actually egg yolks have a lot of cholestrol. They do also have other good vitamins and such. So it's kind of a balancing act.
For one large egg there are 211.5mg of cholesterol which is about 70% of your recommended daily amount.

Thank you for the info; is this the good kind of cholesterol that eggs have or the bad? That can make a diffrence as well, I have a friend whos grandfather had a heart attack and he was told he could eat eggs, if they are cooked right he could have them every day if he wanted to. I guess that is why I thought they didn't have any cholesterol.
firespirit
09-18-2007, 04:36 PM
I assume the bad because my dad just had a heart attack this past weekend and was told to cut eggs and red meat out of his diet at least for a while. But there are other reasons for heart attacks and maybe your friend's grandfathers cholestrol wasn't an issue.

DH and I went to Arby's the other day and got one of their new panini's; it was really good. So I came up with a similar recipe I will be adding to our little cookbook :frogg:
I love re-creating recipes that I like from a restaurants! There's this guy that makes cookbooks like that. If it's a soup he's trying to recreate, he'll strain all of the liquid and look at each and every piece of food in there. He does all kinds of crazy stuff, but my goodness he does a good job. I tried his recipe for the chili from Wendy's a few years ago. It tasted exactly like it.

Its like a pocket of dough filled with hamburger and cheese and stuff and then put in the oven. MMMMmmmmMMMM. I don't have the recipe with me but I will post it later.
I can't recall what my grandmother calls them, but it's more or less a "German hamburger" the meat and veggies are baked right inside the bun :)

OK! I have lots of of them that I want to submit, can I send them to one of you in an e-mail? I have some of them in a word doc already from sending them to a friend that wanted them, I could easily have 30 or 40 recipies that I could send, that are either ones my husband, kids or I really enjoy.

The thread about "holiday goodness" made me think it might be cool to have a section about holiday foods.
So feel free to send in your fav holiday recipes; cookies, desserts, stuffing, etc :frogg:

I have a recipe for one of my favorite pumpkin cookies, I got it from a magazine a few years ago. Would that be something that you would be interested in? I don't have any original recipes. If you are interested can I send it to someone's email I already have it as a word document (I typed it up and simplified it for my mom so I could send it to her).
