See? I'm on baking overload. Now I'm onto finding the best sugar cookie!

This is the first time I've tried 'em from scratch. First batch : not so great! They were too thin (and therefore too crunchy for my tastes) and the icing I tried was WAY sweet. I need to play with that one, for sure.

But they sure turned out cute. (Which is the fun part!)

Just thought I'd share since you've seen all my cupcakes! Hehe!

So cute. I really like the way you did the "J" and "A" on the cookies. They turned out great. You're really good at decorating first the cupcakes now sugar cookies. Plus, your photos are amazing.

LMAO at licking the screen! Hehehhe!

I haven't done anything with the cookies...they're actually just sitting in the kitchen waiting to be eaten or tossed. I don't like them enough to give them away and I certainly don't need to eat them all. :bblol:

I got an old recipe from my FMIL last night and she said they always turn out soft....so we'll see. I made the dough last night and will bake them tonight. I'll let ya know if they turn out good!

:grinhappy:

Thanks for the compliments, ladies! (And gent!)

I know the answer to that one.... if the recipe says bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, take them out after 10 minutes. They may not look done, but take them out anyway. Cookies will continue to cook even when they are no longer in the oven. Once they cool off a bit, they will be soft and delicious.

I've also heard that butter causes the crispness in cookies. So if it calls for, say, a cup of butter...use half a cup of butter and half a cup of shortening instead.

(Of course, I heard this AFTER my crispy cookies!)

I wouldn't do that. Baking is like a science. If you change something important in the recipe, it's probably not going to come out right. Adding or removing something like chocolate chips/nuts is no biggie, but butter is important.

Please don't think I'm being rude, I just bake alot.

Go to http://www.allrecipes.com (http://www.allrecipes.com/)

It's a good site. But I've tried baking the sugar cookies from Martha Stewart's site and they tasted great. :)

But the fun of baking is figuring out what works to make it taste the best. Not all recipes are perfect so you gotta change them up! :grinhappy:

Shortening isn't supposed to have any flavor. If you're worried about the flavor changing, you can add in a little clear butter flavor, I imagine.

I know bakers who don't even use measuring cups anymore. They sure don't think it's an exact science! :bblol:

you know come to think of it my mother always uses shortening when baking cookies. she will use the butter flavored type though so it has that taste and she said she would never use butter because of making the cookies crispy. we all like ours to be gooey. lol. i had completely forgotten about this.
