View Full Version : Need Help W/ Invitation Design....AGAIN

I know I've asked a million times for ideas for these %*&@*^ invitations...but I'm at a loss again. (And can you tell I'm just about tired of messing with them?! LOL)
Ok. I like my layout...the pictures and wording and inserts are all great. I messed with the quote part and like it better, too. (And yes, I'm putting registry info in there...I know how some of you feel about that...hehe!)
But...meh. The thing that always bothered me about mine was that it was just black & white. It was boring the heck outta me. So I added a little red with the "&" symbol and the dots between the R.S.V.P.
But that wasn't enough...so I started playing around with it and came up with this (a rough cut, I know):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v257/zennymountain/inviteblah.jpg
Yeah...decent enough.
But now it looks like my colors are black, white & red. And they're really not. They're basically all deep colors - reds, browns, burnt oranges, etc. White isn't actually one of the colors, even....but it looks good showing through the corset sleeve. :grinhappy:
I'm NOT sure if I like the black, white & red theme going on here, but how to add more colors without being overdone is blowing my mind. I don't want it to look over-designed or, god forbid, crafty.
So are there any ideas on what I can do to change this up a bit so it's not BLACK! WHITE! RED! ??
I would appreciate any ideas.
And you know I love you all for listening to me gripe about this invite...yet again.
:bblol:
Lots of suggestions, and they all don't necessarily go together. It's just a brainstorm of ideas I had when looking at it:
Change the border paper to brown or orange. This is the easiest change to make. Get rid of the black borders.
On the right hand side, a lot of white is showing because the title on top of each card is so big. Try printing out a smaller title, attaching it separately to the top of the card. This will allow the color of the paper to be more prominent.
Or try using semi-transparent specialty paper for some of your printing to reduce the amount of white on the invitation.
Instead of black text on white background, try white text on brown background? Or white text on orange background? You can try this just for the title part of each card.
You can also buy specialty paper with a very light, subdued background in the colors you want and do some of your printing on that, but be careful so that the black ink shows on top of it. Even though they will be lighter versions of your colors, this, with a change of borders, should make your actual colors come across more strongly.
On the little card with the quote on it, you can put a double paper mount underneath it with your wedding colors (brown & orange) or add a heart cutout on top of it with your wedding color.
In the 3 pictures you have of yourselves, instead of black and white, print them with warm, darker tints (like sepia toning them). If you're not sure how to do this in photoshop, you can ask me. Or I can fix them up for you. It should be very quick for me to do.

I very much agree with a lot of these ideas. I personally think the fonts are to big and bold. I would make those a much smaller font. If your wedding is being done in all fall colors such as the burnt orange, browns and deep reds. why not choose a cardstock of brown, with the inside being done in the orange color cardstock, make the font color the same brown and the border colors the deep reds?

I agree with her ideas....but why not just leave it black and white you goof?!?!? It looked great...although the RWB also look good and I am sure they will look great with other colors too!

Ok. I'm almost done with this thing! :bblol:
I took your advice and did a couple of things differently. I made the lettering smaller on the inserts. I did add a double heart there to tie in the double heart charm on the corset thing.
I also realized that it was the RED paper that was bothering me so much. I tried it with two other paper styles - each with a design instead of a solid color - and I like it much, much better.
I also added a piece of the same paper behind the inserts so it's not just a big fat white background. And I changed the quote a little bit...changed the font to look more "fairytale"ish and took away that extra heart. (And it does have a black border now...that one just didn't print right.)
I just need to find a paper design I like that will match the invites. This one was just something I had lying around.
So...thanks!! It's almost finished! (WOOHOOO!)

Don't be. They've been a pain in my butt! :bblol:
Ok - not a total pain....but still. The designing details is the hardest part...putting them all together, comparably, is a SNAP! :grinhappy:
Thanks, ladies. I just got back from Michael's with different colored paper ideas...I think at least one of them will have to work! Woo!

I actually got away from Michael's earlier today without buying anything but 4 pieces of paper!! :bbeek:
But then I went back tonight and bought a bunch of the paper I chose......and then had to buy something else, so I got a stamp. Just one! And it was only 99 cents!
:bblol:
I was a good girl today. :grinhappy:
(Minus the cupcake book I bought on Amazon.)
(And the big cupcake carrying case.)

Ok. Yeah. So I FINALLY finished my invite design, right? FH and I went over it last night and we decided, together, that we LOVE it.
So last night until 2am and then all afternoon today I was working on them, re-making all the folders, cutting the paper and gluing everything on. I got about 30 of them done.
FH comes home, opens an invite, and the following conversation occurs:
FH : Maybe we should finish one all the way and see how we like it.
Me : UM. The one you're holding IS finished. It's the same one that was finished last night.
FH : Oh. Well, I don't like this part. *points to the white under the inserts*
Me : Uhhhhhhm!
FH : You should put a whole sheet of paper on it and just trim out the pocket. I don't like the white. You know...we should have figured this out before.
Me : :irked:
Me : *gouges his eyes out with a fork*
:snide: Seriously. Now I have to start all over. AGAIN!!!
Done venting.
I think my next move instead of gouging his eyes out (you get in big trouble for things like that)would be...
Here you go honey...you make them!!!!:D

I wouldn't want that. I'd like invitations that are at least decent. Heheh!
And, by the way....I SO hate when he's right:

So yeah. Today he woke up and said he doesn't like the quote there.
:irked:
It's time, mister. It's TIME.

This is tooooo funny!! Yep, I'd be having to kill him for that one. I guess he's looking for a funeral instead of a wedding!!!:D :D
