View Full Version : Norethisterone
Has anybody taken Norethisterone to delay their period before? My period has never been on an exact schedule, but now it looks as if it may be during our honeymoon. That would be just wonderful! :snide: So I was considering taking to the doc about taking this med if I need to. I don't want something like that to put a damper on our honeymoon.

Never heard of it...but I have taken the pill through so I didn't even get it for 2 months!

I realized too late that my wedding would fall right about the time that my period was due. I don't know if that was the exact name of the drug but yes, I took pills to delay it.
Ummmmmmm it didn't do any good but my doctor told me that I should called her earlier and so, taken it earlier. It also took a month or two to get my system back to "normal" afterward.

Hmmm...lol...well then. :D From what I've heard of this particular med, you have to take it 3 to 4 days before your cycle is supposed to begin and then continue taking it until it's okay for your period to start again. Your period is supposed to start another 3 to 4 days after you take the last pill. But that's just what I've heard. That's why I wanted to know if anybody had any experience with it.

Whatever it was, I started taking it about a week before but when my period came the day before my weddinig, I ditched the pills. There was no point in taking any more.
You might want to ask your doctor about the birth control "shot". I don't know much about it but I heard that you get an injection every 3 or 6 months. It's not only birth control but you don't have your period either.
Yeah, I need to ask about allll of my options.

I'm on the shot - Depo Provera. LOVE! IT!
I go to Planned Parenthood to get it and it's $100 every 3 months...$80 for the shot, $20 for the doctor exam (which basically means a doc coming into the room for 30 seconds and asking how I'm doing. LOL).
But it's been great to me. The first month I got it, I was on my period for 2 weeks straight. I was about to freak out....but then it stopped and I haven't had one since (and it's been 9 months since I started it).
The only negative side effects I've had is that I get a headache for the first few days after I get the shot...I've heard that's common, though, and if you are prone to migranes, you prolly shouldn't do the shot.
They also recommend you take calcium (or eat/drink extra dairy products) if you're on the shot because long-term use (over 3 years) has been shown to decrease bone density. I do calcium pills but don't worry about it too much since I'll only be on it for another year.
The only other thing is that if you're wanting to get pregnant, you need to stop taking the shot about a year before you plan to have a baby...I guess the chemicals reside in your body for awhile and make it harder for you to conceive up to a year after you stop taking it.
That was long and drawn out. But thought I'd share because I flippin' love it so much. So easy! :grinhappy:
Haha. Well, thanks for the info honey! I am in the process of considering some sort of BC, but I still don't know what I'm going to do so that info is valuable. :D

Just something I found out about depo shots. My sister in law has been taking them for years. Last year she noticed her nipples having a clear discharge. when she went to her doctor about it he told her she had a build up of the depo and it was leaking out. nothing could be done for her but to stop taking the shot and lay off the depo.

That is one bad thing about Depo....if something happens, you can't just stop taking it. It's in your system and you have to wait it out.
The most problems I've heard from it are from people who have been on it for years. I guess your body finally says ENOUGH of the chemicals. :ooh:

I will try to get you more info at work today.
if i want to delay my period i just start my next pack and skip the placebo pills and start over. that is how i do it. I done this a few times because it seems like every time i go on vacation it is that time of the month. So i just skip it that month.
