View Full Version : The perfect bridal gown, but...

I have just found the perefect wedding gown!!! I was so thrilled when I first saw it, it was "love at first sight". However, there always seems to be a BUT. The dress is going to be $300 more than I anticipated spending. I told myself that I should think with my head, because spending $1300 for a bridal gown that will only be worn once was crazy! But now I find myself comparing every other dress to this gown.
Should I just bite the bullet and pay the extra $300 for a gown that I love, or should I look for a dress that I don't love as much but is within my budget?
Hmm that’s a real tough one! If it was me, and I planned to spent $1,000 dollars already... so what would another 300 more be, to have what I wanted.
The only problem to this is if you start skimping in other areas to make up for it, you would be doing the same thing in other areas. I guess as long as you could handle another 300 dollars I would go for it, if not find something else.
Hope that helps! ;)

I agree with l3vi. I would buy the dress only if I could afford it.
By the time I found another dress in the price range I have it may be months down the road, or I may not find one I like just as much and all the time looking for another gown was wasted.
What gown did you fall in love with?

Can you add to your current total wedding budget by taking funds from a savings account, or setting aside an additional $25-$30 or so a month? If not, reconsider what you already have in mind (but not contracted yet, of course), and see if any numbers within your budget can be juggled. Are you considering any big splurge areas that you can live without, such as a limousine for your entire bridal party or an ice sculpture? Perhaps you can nix that idea and use that money toward your dream gown.
Good luck on your decision.

Thanks for your input. I initially decided that I would work overtime to cover the extra cost of the dress. It was a Demitrios dress. I'll try to add the pic.
I also kept on looking to see if I could find something similiar, within my budget. I ended up finding a dress that is within my budget, and that I really love.
So it worked itself out in the end.

Hi,
I know your wedding may have already occurred, but... if anyone else is in the same predicament. I wouldn't recommend putting yourself in the hole or working a second job to buy a dress you obviously can't afford! Shop around / Put an ad in your local paper for a used gown / Don't look for wedding gowns specifically - you can often find dresses that are very similar to the style you like in the PROM or SPECIAL OCCASION section of department stores.
GOOD LUCK!
